Poke Is Taking Over This City

Poke: /pˈk/ (Hawaiian for “to section” or “to slice or cut”) is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, and sometimes as a main course. Adaptations may feature raw salmon or various shellfish as a main ingredient served raw with the common “poke” seasonings.

This is the term you have been seeing on signs and reading on food blogs around the country. Traditional poke is comprised of fish mixed with an Asian-influenced sauce (think soy sauce & ginger base), but now restaurants like Poke City in Johns Creek are taking these specialty bowls up a notch. This one-food show is now a bowl of unlimited options. You can combine multiple types of seafood (like tuna, salmon and scallops) then pile on delicious vegetables (like edamame, cucumbers, seaweed salad, avocados…etc.) for a texturally complex dish. These bowls are both filling and beautiful. The combination of colors make for the most likeable of Instagram posts, so try Poke City’s version and post yours today!

Also on the Poke City menu are acai bowls. These are a perfect way to feel like you’re treating yourself with a bowl of fruit. Granola is layered under a “smoothie” of blended fruit then topped with whichever fruits, nuts and seeds you like.
