We’re here to do our part to amplify Black voices and provide a platform to highlight their delicious food and culinary stories. From tried and true Atlanta institutions to thrilling new haunts, in honor of Black Business Month, we’re shining a spotlight of support on Black-owned restaurants that have helped and continue to build Atlanta’s dining future. While this isn’t an all-encompassing list, we wanted to run down our favorites spanning breakfast/brunch, lunch/dinner, and dessert across metro Atlanta.

Le Petit Marche

Daddy D’z BBQ Joynt
The easily recognizable Summerhill shack with the billowing plumes of rich smoke coming from the back is the epitome of the mantra, “never judge a book by its cover.” Daddy D’z is highly lauded for its meticulous attention doing barbecue right. Take it slow and low with fall-off-the-bone ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, and sides galore.
Lake & Oak
James Beard Award-nominated chef and cookbook author, Chef Todd Richards, shares his life through his food with places like his Krog Street Market hot chicken stall, Richards’ Southern Fried, and his newest concept Lake & Oak. Old Lady Gang
This Southern eatery from husband and wife team Todd Tucker and Kandi Burruss-Tucker of Xscape and The Real Housewives of Atlanta fame, features down-home eats created by her mother and aunts. Slim and Husky’s
This West Midtown fast-casual pizza shop is spreading the PREAM (Pizza Rules Everything Around Me) gospel with high-quality ingredients and seriously sweet cinnamon rolls. Slim and Husky’s artisan pizzas take the build-your-own pizza concept to the next level, but we’re big fans of the meat-laden “Cee No Green.” Order online and see for yourself.
If you haven’t been “sluttified” by this popular vegan restaurant, you’re missing out. The long lines don’t lie. It’s that good! Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar
As an introduction to the Gullah Geechee culture, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen is an excellent foray into this niche corridor’s cuisine. The OG Atlanta cupcake shop is still going strong with even more confections to wrap your sweet tooth around. CamiCakes started with signature cupcakes like red velvet, strawberries and cream, and seasonal offerings to keep things interesting. For an adult twist on the usual cupcake, Delights By Dawn is adding a bit of fun to the typical birthday party treat in the form up boozed-up flavors. Infused Pina colada? Check.
